Hello… our Sales Brew this week is a year-end look at you…just you. Specifically, it is a year-end look at the goals and dreams that you are chasing as the calendar flips to 2015.
I can’t recall the origin of the quote, but it goes something like this: “Most people are living the kind of life that they tolerate.” So, my question for you is simply this – what are you tolerating in terms of your sales practice?
Look, selling, while certainly an enjoyable profession, is also an incredibly difficult profession. And while not everyone enters into sales for its promise of financial rewards, most people did enter the world of sales thinking they would not have a mediocre lifestyle. And… this is really important…I am not talking about financial rewards for you only. I am talking about reaching a point in your sales career where you realize that money gives you two kinds of freedom: freedom of time and freedom of choice. The accumulation of wealth is always best utilized to fulfill a dream, whether it be your dream or a dream that belongs to someone you love.
For those of you who have been around our training for any length of time, you no doubt know we talk about the importance of responsibility, which we define as people taking responsibility for their results and not making excuses or blaming others.
Wasn’t a part of your decision to enter sales based on your desire to be the commander of your own ship? We have talked on these brews repeatedly about the vast number of things that are beyond your control in the sales process. But you do control two powerful things – your attitude and your effort.
Take a look at your sales practice…take a look at your life. What are you getting or living with simply because you are tolerating it? What are you prepared to do differently in 2015? Remember – your preferred future depends on your appetite for change.
